Drop the Excuses

October 2, 2017

Want to know a saying I love?-- "When I dropped all of my excuses, I found all of my results."

I know it sounds so cliché, but it is so true. Every day I come across excuses-- be that from my students, my clients, friends, family, or even myself! We are all guilty of making excuses, and it is time to cut it out.

Imagine this: Each of us have a rope tied around our waist. Every time we make an excuse, the rope gets pulled tighter and tighter. With less slack in our rope, progressing forward gets harder and harder. Before we know it, we're either stuck in the same place, or pulled back further than we were when we started!

That is what excuses do to us. They keep us stuck where we are or they regress us.

It is time to shape up, people! You want progress and results? Then drop the excuses.

"I don't have time to workout today."

...yes you do. See THIS POST for more details.

"I fell off on my eating, so I might as well forget it now."

So, you fell off-- it happens to all of us! The key is being able to get back up and not letting a little mistake turn into a big one.

A.k.a. don't let 1 or 2 "bad" meals turn into a weekend of poor eating or binge eating.

"It's too late." (and I don't mean this time-of-the-day-wise)

Similar to the last excuse, you need to get back up. It is never 'too late' and saying this is just a cop out for putting in the necessary effort.

Quit your crying, put in some effort, and make the time you're working with count. Every week is a new start. Every day is a new start. Heck, every MINUTE is a new start!

There is no such thing as "too late", it's just called "too little motivation".

"There's no point, nothing is changing."

Changes take time. We live in a world where everyone wants everything immediately, but unfortunately that isn't how it works when it comes to progress and change in our bodies.

If you get discouraged and used that as an excuse to quit, then you can bet your not-so-perky-or-round butt nothing will change.

Stay committed. Nothing worth having comes easy (or quickly)

...this list of excuses can go on and on, but I'm going to keep this post short and sweet.

Basically, what I'm getting at is it is time to toughen up!

Pay attention to your inner voice/inner critic. Catch yourself when you're making excuses, and then tell yourself to stop being such a baby ;)

Turn your "I can't"-s into "I can"-s, and see what happens-- you may just surprise yourself...

Happy Monday, my beautiful (and motivated) friends!

MARIA'S FITNESS TIPS

#1

Set goals! Set both long and short-range goals to keep yourself motivated. Be sure that the short-range goals will eventually lead you to your big-picture, long-range ones. Consider them stepping stones on the path towards something bigger.

#2

Do what you like to do. Don't just start doing something because everyone else is; find what you truly enjoy and do that. In the end, if you don't have a genuine interest in your workouts and lifestyle, you're going to hinder your progress.

#3

Switch things up! I know this may sound kind of funny after just reading #2, but as humans, we can get bored of doing the same thing over and over. As well, our muscles can get "bored" and we can plateau. Do not be afraid to try new things and incorporate change to keep you entertained and your muscles guessing!
